Nothing Less Than Ordinary With The Ordinary Coverage & Serum Foundation

I've been let down over and over again by overrated, high-end foundation so I guess why not I change direction and set my sight on a cheaper alternative instead. That's basically how I end up with not one but two highly rave and cult favourite foundation from The Ordinary. Since it's so affordably priced, I decided to purchase both version; coverage and serum right away. All the review I read looks promising, the website information is very thorough and the shade selection is quite easy to figure out with, who am I to say no to all that, right?

If you're not familiar with The Ordinary, they actually begin as a beauty brand that offers a wide range of skincare treatment for only a fraction of the market price. Not only that, they're expanding more into cosmetics recently and of course, I'm intrigued to find out what's the fuss is all about! According to The Ordinary, both foundation are vegan, alcohol-free, oil-free, nut-free, gluten-free, soy-free and also cruelty-free. It's also comes with SPF15 and available in 21 shades that were divided into 3 skin tone categories; light (1), medium (2) and deep (3).

They also added that The Ordinary Coverage Foundation is made from full coverage formulation which contains higher pigment level to create a rich, highly-saturated effect. These pigment are suspended in their proprietary spread-ability system that allows pigments to look natural on the skin, resist collecting within fine lines and stay on for longer meanwhile The Ordinary Serum Foundation promised a moderate coverage that looks natural with a very lightweight serum feel. Low in viscosity, it's also treated for a rich, highly saturated effect too.

Moving on to my thoughts, first thing first is the packaging. I really like how minimalist the design is. Travel friendly plastic bottle with a black pump that dispense the product efficiently, nothing lush and unnecessary. Texture-wise; it feels a lot like lotion, lightweight and comfortable on the skin. The scent on the other hand is very mild and in terms of the coverage, it's pretty similar to Too Faced Born This Way foundation that I previously blog about here. Buildable medium to full coverage with natural, semi matte finish.

To be honest, I don't really have high hopes with this foundation but it keeps on surprising me. It's not cakey or oxidize much like I was expecting and the staying power is quite impressing too. It's stays for more than 8 hours, surpassing some of the high end foundation that I've tried before! The only thing I dislike about it, it's only works well when I'm using it with The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicon Primer. I've tried using it with my other primer, Hourglass Veil Mineral and Benefit Porefessional unfortunately it doesn't last as long, sigh~

I don't really wear light coverage foundation so this one is quite new to me. If you're wondering why they're using the word "serum", no it's not because of it comes with any skincare benefit. It's actually referring to the the foundation watery, weightless serum-like texture. The packaging and scent is identical to The Ordinary Coverage Foundation so I won't delve into the details here. Just like it's claim, the coverage is leaning more towards sheer. It's not good enough to cover my skin imperfections sadly but feels so hydrating on the skin.

Again, I didn't expect much with this foundation. It lasted for about 4 hours on me and didn't looks cakey even after I applied the second layer. Another plus point is, it doesn't really oxidize and turn one shade darker which I love. This foundation might not be something that I'll pick for special occasion but for everyday looks, it certainly have the potential to be my new favorite! I wish it comes with higher SPF though so I don't have to worry about putting on sunscreen ever morning, god knows how much I hate doing that!

All in all, I can say that The Ordinary foundation is definitely nothing less than ordinary. I finally understand what's all the craze is all about. It's so affordably price and delivers most of it's claim, you really have to try it to believe it. I'm so freaking excited to get my hands on their skincare next, let's hope it'll live up to it's promise just like this one too.
